My first post, and I’m already serving up left-overs. Not that I have anything against leftovers, do you? But for a first post, you’d expect something, well….
But leftovers it is. Because yesterday was my birthday. And we went here:
Watercourse foods . It’s a vegetarian/vegan restaurant that I’ve been wanting to try pretty much since we moved here. I’ve heard sooo many good things about it. And now I have good things to say about it too. Even though at first Aaron was a bit skeptical:
In the three years that we’ve been together, I’m pretty sure he’s eaten more interesting salads with “different ingredients” than he has in his life. As long as they are a side, he’s alright. Though his palate has grown more accustomed to tempeh. And even though we eat a LOT of greens, he devoured the starter salad. Muttering in between mouthfuls, “We need to… make this… balsamic… dressing at home!
He also loved the bread (which I have a sneaking suspicion might have been One Degree Veganic bread). He ordered the Buffalo Tempeh Sandwich with seasonal vegetables (which he thought were grilled zucchini, peppers and onions–all Aaron approved veggies). He got this:
The fries and sandwich, he LOVED. The cabbage and garbanzos? Well, he tried them. I liked them. I did not like his sandwich because it tasted exactly like what Buffalo Wild Wings smells like. Which is why he loved it. It tasted like BWW wings too he said (I’ve never tried them)
I ordered the Thai Peanut Stir-fry with brown rice and grilled tempeh. The flavors of the Thai stir-fry were awesome. So creamy and spicy. I loved it! The tempeh was pretty plain. If you aren’t used to eating it, I wouldn’t recommend trying this as a first dish. Tempeh is good, I just prefer it marinated before grilling/baking. Don’t get me wrong, I still devoured more than half my plate. And even though my stomach was nearly Thanksgiving full, you have to order dessert on your birthday, right?
Vegan coconut cream pie. Oh my. When our server brought this out, we told her we’d probably be needing a box for this too (we had already boxed up the rest of our dinners). By the time she came back to check on us…..
All gone. I could not stop eating it! I might have to try to re-create this one at home soon. Not sure if I can get the crust right though (which I’m pretty sure was gluten-free and still flaky). Will keep you posted if I can create a presentable recipe.
Such a great birthday dinner! And I can’t wait to go back and try more from the menu.
With love from Colorado,
