After a year of living on the front range, we have a stash of favorite hikes within about 30 minutes from the city. And peaceful and beautiful as they may be, sometimes you just have to seek out a new trail. So today we went here:

IMG_0871A little above Evergreen High School is this web of trail systems. We wound up combining a few loops for a 4.5 mile hike with beautiful weather, green meadows, and the start of wildflowers blooming. Here are a few pictures from the trail:

DSC00969Unfortunately, this picture doesn’t capture the continental divide poking out from the foothills behind us since the clouds seem to swallow them up. But the mountains were beautiful!

DSC00970These are the “Three Sisters” –rock formations the trail is named after.

DSC00971What we loved about this trail was its close access from the city–a little more than 30 minutes to get to the trailhead, and the wide gravel path that you can walk side by side on. It was a pretty easy hike–nothing technical, not too steep. A nice hike for Spring for sure, summer we will be a little higher in elevation. This would also be a pretty easy after work hike (for those so inclined).

After the hike, we were both huungry. So we stopped in to Da Kind, a cute little local soup and sandwich shop in Evergreen. I ordered a cup of vegetable soup (very tasty, home-made tasting!), and Aaron got a half grilled cheese sandwich. I tested the sandwich–and oh my! Best grilled cheese ever. We will be coming back, even though it was a bit pricey. It’s the kind of local, adorable place you want to support. Also, look how cute & clean it is in there:
